EH40/2005 Workplace exposure limits (CO2)

In the UK, COâ‚‚ is controlled under COSHH regulations set by HSE, with defined workplace exposure limits to help protect workers:

  • TWA (Time Weighted Average): 5,000 ppm over 8 hours
This represents the maximum average concentration a worker should be exposed to during a standard working shift.
  • STEL (Short Term Exposure Limit): 15,000 ppm over 15 minutes
This is the maximum concentration allowed over a short period, designed to prevent acute health effects from short-term spikes in COâ‚‚ levels.

These limits are set to reduce the risk of both immediate and longer-term health effects. Exceeding them can lead to symptoms developing quickly, especially in confined space environments. View all EH40/2005 workplace exposure limits here: eh40.pdf
