The BFBI Eastern Region Five a side Football Tournament was held on Tuesday 20th of November at Debenham Sports Centre in the heart of Suffolk . Teams from Muntons, COFCO, Ipswich Grain Terminal and Crisps Malt competed to win the Robin Wright Memorial Trophy. The standard of football was very good and it was a very competitive evening . Muntons were deserved winners with good team work and communication leading them to victory. Special thanks to our Referee Amos Owen and to Fengrain for sponsoring the after match curry and to Openfield and COFCO for support of the event. £150 was raised for the East Anglian Childrens Hospice.

Eastern Section Quiz Night 2018
After a glorious summer, our annual BFBI Eastern section Quiz night always seems to mark the start of Winter and the weather this year was no exception. This did not put off our 60 quiz competitors who met at Greene Kings ‘ Brewery Tap’ for our two round quiz .

After the first 4 rounds the Brewers were marginally ahead . But the Refreshments and Buffet meal kindly  provided by Greene King spurred the Brewers onto victory and retaining the winners cup. Koshir Kassie received the Wooden spoon shield for the trade. A great evening was had by all . special thanks to Kit Wells for being quiz master and to George Irving for scoring the evening. £270 was also raised for the East Anglian Children’s Hospice.

Eastern Section Cricket 2018
On a cold wet January evening at Debenham Sports Centre in the heart of rural Suffolk a group gathered to compete in the 2nd annual BFBi Indoor cricket tournament.

The six man/woman teams were represented by Openfield, COFCO, Boortmalt and Muntons A, B, and C teams. The games were, as always, very competitive and very enjoyable to play.

The beauty of indoor cricket is its access to players of all abilities and the fast pace of the game. Although the competition was fierce, Muntons B emerged as clear winners with a very consistent performance.

Kossir Kassie must be commended for putting himself in the way of the ball on several occasions! After the cricket all players and spectators retired to the bar for a well deserved drink and curry.

Thanks must also be given to COFCO, Openfield, Muntons and Boortmalt for their sponsorship of the event.
Eastern Section’s Annual Dinner - Robinson’s College 2018
As always, Eastern Section hosted a splendid evening in the surrounds of Robinson College.

With a greater attendance than the previous year, the dining hall was filled.  New, this year, was a competition to provide the best twitter post to Eastern Section’s new twitter account @BFBiEastern.

Professor David Hughes, Emeritus Professor of Food Marketing at Imperial College London, gave an insightful and entertaining speech. As a man who travels the world talking to businesses, trade associations, governments and conferences on global
developments in the food and drink industry, the audience was given an insight into his unparalleled knowledge of global food issues and opportunities.

The raffle was well supported, with £1,287.80 raised, which, together with other funds, has resulted in a total of £1,839.90 being sent to the British Heart Foundation.
