British Brewers' Export Group

The British Brewers' Export Group visited Craft Brewers Conference 2015, Portland, Oregon via a number of collaboration brews with US brewers.  All beers were very enthusiastically received and we hope to repeat the initiative in 2016.

Collaboration Brews:

Established in 1872, Adnams want to make sure that their impact on society is a positive one.

Their company values are rooted in making great products without costing the earth. From working with local farmers and producers who supply their brewery and hotels, through to partnering with a local business to install an anaerobic digestion plant to turn brewery and food waste into biogas, they believe that doing the right thing makes great business sense.

Collaboration brew with Sixpoint Brewery, Brooklyn, NY, USA.

Altbier (6.1% abv) - a sharp bitter bite carried through by deep malt character. It can be savoured over a long pint, and it’s clean and easy drinking, glass after glass.

Danny, and the crew of Sixpoint, set out to recreate the flavor he knew from way back, to fit his current palate. The result is a snappy, bready and delicately bitter brew that the whole team has been downing by the half-liter.

This is their first batch of Altbier since the “Big Sticke” they brewed for their Mad Scientists Series back in 2011. They brewed this one with some casual help from some visiting friends at Adnams of Southwold, England.

Fourpure is a London based family brewery founded in 2013. Beer is their passion and their travels are what inspire them to brew. Their approach to exceptional brewing is all about attention to detail, not cutting corners and innovating yet staying true to the principles of brewing – respecting the four core ingredients used to make beer: grain, yeast, hops and water. This was the inspiration for the name Fourpure.

Collaboration brew with Bear Republic, Cloverdale, California.

Transatlantic Overdrive  (7.2% abv) - an IPA of pedigree, combining Fourpure's sense of adventure with Bear Republic's love of big beer. John, Fourpure's Head Brewer says:

"Exciting new American hops meet traditional English malts in this big, bold, West Coast IPA. The use of Golden Promise base malt, wheat malt, and a small amount of Caramalt gives this beer a light but flavourful malt character and a generous, lacey head. This beer is aggressively hopped with two brand new American varieties, Lemondrop and an as of yet unnamed experimental variety, "06277." Lemondrop is full of bright lemon citrus flavours, along with notes of mint and honeydew melon. The monstrous 06277 elicits juicy pineapple, ripe mango, spicy citrus (including tangerine and orange), and hints of pine and strawberry. As far as we know we are the first brewery in the UK to brew with these varieties, and after Bear Republic only one other brewery in the world has released a beer with the brand new 06277 hop in it."

Rudgate Brewery was established in 1992 and is situated in the heart of Yorkshire in the Vale of York.

The name comes from the old Roman road of ‘Rudgate’ which runs through the airfield.   This road led the Vikings along their vale defeating the Romans in their steps.  The road, its name and our proximity to York is what influenced the main theme of Vikings for their brewery.  The brewery produces both traditional and new style beers and has won a string of awards including CAMRA Overall Champion Beer of Britain 2009 for its Ruby Mild.

Rudgate Brewery are extremely keen to export beers to the vibrant market in the USA. Their aim is to develop trading relationships with customers in the cask, keg and small pack sectors.

Collaboration brew with Hogshead Brewery, Denver, USA

Atlantic Crossing (5% abv) - a resinous Best Bitter with toasted, caramel malt and earthy English yeast.

Atlantic Crossing Best Bitter brings together the passion of two world class breweries.  Its nutty, toffee, toasted malt character marries with a distinct earthiness from Hogshead's house yeast.   Starting with a soft mouth-feel but finishing resinous and dry from the use of both England's finest Challenger hops and the American's northwest's prized Cascade hops, this ale pays homage to best bitters made on both sides of the pond!

Stewart Brewing, founded in 2004 by Steve and Jo Stewart, is Edinburgh's local, independent brewery. Their business is based on two very basic principles:

•to produce beers of the highest quality possible.
•to provide an exceptional service to its customers.

Stewart Brewing quickly established itself as one of Scotland's most successful and reputable breweries. Over the years they have continued to innovate and develop, whilst upholding the traditional ethos of Edinburgh's rich brewing history.

The original line-up of cask ales still remain at the core of the business. The next natural step was to produce a range of bottled beers and to extend our range of cask & keg brews to accommodate the more experimental drinker,

Collaboration brew with Crux Fermentation, Bend, Oregon USA.

Cross Roads (9.6% abv) - this transatlantic brew takes inspiration from both sides of the pond.  A robust, malty scotch ale base, truck loads of USA hops, then aged on scotch whisky oak and a brand new experimental hop variety from Oregon.  This beer takes the best of Scottish and American brewing techniques to give a unique and intriguing twist on a classic style.
