As sector lead in dispense equipment and cellar equipment installation & maintenance, BFBi has worked with industry to deliver a route to professional qualifications via a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Drinks Dispense as well as delivering the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Drinks Dispense, which underwrites the CSIM Card (see below), a licence to practice.
This ensures a minimum standard of best practice and safety within cellar service installation & maintenance – an area whch benefits from two derogations from legislation (confined space and pressure vessel).
To complement the qualifications, BFBi has put in place a card scheme, which ensures licensees, pub operators can have confidence in the technical competence of any engineers working within the cellar.
The cards meet the requirements of the Construction Design and Management Regulations 2007 (CDM) and range from a white card (level 2 Technical Certificate in Health & Safety and Survey of the Cellar) to Blue (Apprenticeship in Drinks Dispense).

The Level 2 Technical Certificate ensures a minimum body of knowledge to ensure best practice and safety to the industry and the Level 2 NVQ ensures a minimum level of competence within the workplace, which can be recognised as a reasonable benchmark of competence for a site based worker.
Cellar Service Engineers now have a nationally recognised professional qualifications pathway, which can only help to drive up quality standards within the on-trade”

The Apprenticeship in Drinks Dispense embraces the wide body of knowledge required by Cellar Service Engineers, which, until now, has not been professionally acknowledged within a progressive, professional format.
