Driving Innovation and Sustainability: A Visit to Kersia UK
This week, we were delighted to be hosted by Kersia UK for a Meet the BFBi Member event and a Member Podcast opportunity. You can expect to see much, much more form our Kersia visit over the coming weeks (especially on our YouTube Channel!), but we wanted to take a moment to talk about our experience at Kersia!
It was a brilliant insight into a company that does far more than produce hygiene and biosecurity solutions, Kersia UK is actively helping shape a more sustainable future for the food and beverage industry.
Kersia UK provides hygiene solutions “from farm to fork” and “grain to glass,” but what does that actually mean? In practice, they partner with customers to support water and chemical optimisation, sustainability improvements, and carbon footprint reduction, making a real difference across the entire production cycle.
Behind the Scenes: A Look at Kersia UK’s Production
We were given a guided tour of their impressive site, where Kersia manufactures its products from scratch. With eight blending vessels producing up to 100 products, and a daily production capacity of 250 tonnes (with potential to scale up), it’s clear this is a business built for flexibility and responsiveness. Their ability to hold stock on-site and deliver it via their own fleet, means they can meet customer needs quickly and efficiently — a critical capability in today’s supply chain climate.
People Power: The Heart of Kersia UK
When asked how they stay ahead in such a dynamic industry, the answer was resounding: people. The production and manufacturing team, together with Technical Sales Consultants — all qualified brewers and operators — are passionate, engaged, and committed to continuous learning and development. This culture of knowledge sharing and CPD (continuing professional development) ensures that Kersia doesn’t just supply products, but solutions.
Supported by a global technical team, Kersia UK’s values —Transparency, Sharing, Foresight, and Proficiency — truly set them apart. This collaborative, expertise-driven approach empowers them to help customers optimise production processes and navigate today’s evolving challenges.
Sustainability in Action
A recurring theme throughout the day’s discussions was sustainability — both within Kersia and how they support the industry. Whether it’s reducing water usage or minimising chemical waste, Kersia’s approach is always holistic.
One particular example is an internal initiative led by Production Manager Dean Shelvey, which achieved a 90% reduction in wastewater — saving up to 13,000 litres per week. You can read more about this innovative project here.
What Did We Learn?
Kersia UK is far more than a chemical manufacturer. They’re a strategic partner, helping businesses meet sustainability goals, optimise production, and overcome modern challenges. Their commitment to innovation, collaboration, and environmental responsibility is clear in every conversation and every process.
A huge thank you to @Richard Fine (Sales Director), Belinda Jennings and Declan Teare (Technical Sales Consultants), Dean Shelvey (Production Manager), and Nicola Bellamy (Marketing & Communications Manager) for sharing their time, expertise, and passion with us.
