Supplying the brewing, food and beverage industry.
Introduced in 2007, and developed by BFBi in collaboration with Member companies, the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) and the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), the NCCSIM is the gold standard for Cellar Service Engineer accreditation and proof of competence.
The NCCSIM is aimed at for those working, or planning to work, as a cellar engineer within the below listed establishments, or, any other venue that has a cellar requiring an engineer.
The course comprises 5 units and is based around self-managed learning, requiring candidates to utilise the course materials provided and their on-the-job experience to reach the desired learning outcomes.
The five units cover a variety of key subject areas:
∗Required for candidates without requisite minimum experience or job role.
Each unit then culminates in a 1 day trainer led, classroom based exam preparation day for each of the units, prior to a 30 minute exam.
Having all been recruited from industry the BFBi trainers hold a wealth of knowledge and experience, having held positions such as Head Brewer and Head of Technical Services for some of the most well-known and respected companies in the industry.
Exam preparation days are usually held over a period of 5 months, to allow candidates sufficient time in possession of the learning materials to study and internalise the information present.
For more details on the units and the qualification please CLICK HERE to download our 2019 promo leaflet.
Several courses run annually in each of the 4 adjacent locations, and bespoke packages are available, that can be tailored to your specific geographical needs.
We are also currently in discussion with several other venues in order to increase regional accessibility.
Those wishing to be considered for use as a venue should contact us using the details found at the bottom of this page.
Your registration fee pays for candidate exam board enrolment and certification, while your Unit fees cover the cost of the following elements:
Within the cost of each Unit candidates will receive a printed copy of the relevant Unit handbook, written and maintained by BFBi, our team of trainers and in consultation with industry experts. A folder will also be provided with each candidate’s first set of learning materials for the safe keeping of all course related documents.
The candidate will also receive one place on a trainer led, classroom based exam preparation day designed to assist candidates in knowledge consolidation, revision and
preparation prior to their examination.
Running alongside the NCCSIM course is the nationally recognised Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) accredited Cellar Service Installation & Maintenance (CSIM) Card.
As of 2019, BFBi are pleased to offer one CSIM card to each candidate, included within the cost of their first Unit.
The CSIM card is your proof of competence, identity, accreditation and proves your right to carry out installations, maintenance and alterations in the cellar service environment verifies the holder as having the required training and qualifications for the type of work they are intending to carry out.
2 versions of the CSIM card are available to successful NCCSIM candidates:
Due to the niche in which the sector operates, and the safety derogations that industry has received, some candidates may also be required to undertake a practical assessment
subsequent to Units 1-5.
This practical assessment is centred on fault-finding, and will take place in a state-of-the-art simulated cellar environment; this assessment is a mandatory, gateway requirement for candidates who are not currently under the employment of a recognised industry technical organisation.
Cards are valid for 3 years, at which point they must be renewed.
Card renewals cost £25.00+VAT, or £15.00+VAT for BFBi Members.
Each potential candidate will need to complete and submit an enrolment form; which will also allow us to ascertain the necessity of the Practical Assessment in obtaining your CSIM card.
Please CLICK HERE to download an enrolment form.
All completed forms should be submitted to CellarServices@BFBi.org.uk, or to the postal address at the bottom of this page.
Should you have any questions or wish to discuss anything, please feel free to contact us and a member of the BFBi team will be glad to assist.
